From Pen & Paper to Tuft Pro: How Polly Built a Grooming Sanctuary in Bungay

In the quiet charm of Bungay, Suffolk, there’s a little dog grooming studio that’s much more than a place for pups to get pampered. It’s a haven of care, community, and connection, thanks to Polly, the passionate owner behind Tail and Chase Dog Grooming.
A One-Woman Mission Fueled by Passion
Polly’s journey into the world of dog grooming didn’t follow the traditional route. Her story is one of resilience, adaptability, and heartfelt commitment. “I studied at a dog grooming academy in Norwich during lockdown,” she shares. “I did a lot of volunteering, and then I found this little shop in Bungay and it’s just grown from there.”
Tail and Chase is proudly a one-to-one grooming studio, something Polly says is especially important for anxious pups and their owners. “They really like the quietness. The fact that the dogs just get my attention only really works.”
This personalised approach has earned Polly more than just loyal customers, it’s woven her into the fabric of the local community.
Bungay Roots, Big Heart
Polly isn’t just a groomer. She’s a neighbour, a friend, and a familiar face around town. “A lot of my customers live in town, so I’ll walk down the street and see Fluffy or Bella,” she laughs. “I give them a little stroke, and it’s just nice. We’ve built up a really good relationship.”
Her own dog even joins in on the local camaraderie. “My dog is currently across the road with his best friend Alice,” Polly smiles. “We all look out for each other, it’s that kind of community.”
More Than Cuddles: The Truth About Grooming
Ask Polly for advice on becoming a groomer, and she’s quick to set the record straight. “People think we just cuddle dogs all day,” she says, “but it’s actually quite a physical job. You’re on your feet all day, dealing with all sorts of breeds and temperaments.”
That’s why she encourages aspiring groomers to get hands-on. “Even though you can do certain courses online, I wouldn’t advise that. It’s definitely a hands-on job. Shadow someone, volunteer, ask questions. We’re all pretty friendly, and we’re all here to help.”
And Polly means it, “My inbox is always open,” she adds with a grin.
Enter Tuft: A Game Changer for Her Business
Running a business and being a full-time parent left Polly juggling too many balls, especially when it came to scheduling. “I was just using paper and pen. It was getting a bit hectic,” she admits.
That changed when she discovered Tuft.
“I really liked the idea of having my diary online,” Polly says. “I can access it from my phone, my computer, even someone else’s phone if I need to.”
And! Her customers love it too. “They really like the freedom it gives them. They don’t have to call or text. They can book at any time, and I just confirm it on my side.”
It’s a simple shift, but one that’s transformed the way Polly runs her business. “Going from pen to paper to an online diary just that itself has helped massively,” she explains. “It’s made me come across more professional. I think customers respect that.”
Polly Recommends Tuft
Polly is quick to recommend Tuft to other groomers. “Yes, I would absolutely recommend Tuft. It’s helped me out massively,” she says without hesitation.
But beyond the technology, it’s clear that what truly sets Tail and Chase apart is Polly herself. Her passion, her openness, and her unwavering commitment to her craft and her community.
